It is 1818 and the Netherlands is 'on fire'. Napoleon has left our country as the 'Kingdom of the Poor'. The socially conscious general Johannes van den Bosch comes up with an ambitious plan to combat poverty in our country by founding agricultural colonies. This long walking route takes you past various monuments of the Society of Benevolence. You enter, as it were, the 'outdoor museum' of the Colonies of Benevolence. The monuments have an information board and when you scan the QR code on this board, you will receive even more details. The route is paved everywhere. Enjoy walking and don't forget to visit the Museum De Proefkolonie - the starting point of the route! The route is indicated by means of yellow signs with the words 'Monumentenroute'.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
