Hogeland
Uithuizen is located in the Groningen Hogeland: a region that is relatively high due to the alluvial marine clay. The landscape here is extremely open: you see grasslands and arable lands, crooked ditches with waving reed collars, winding dikes and of course beautiful high skies. Every now and then you walk down a path that is surrounded by trees. Such as on the park-like grounds at the sixteenth-century Rensumaborg.
Museum Menkemaborg
There were once six sureties in Uithuizen. Only the fourteenth-century Menkemaborg is still standing, it is one of the most beautiful Groningen borgs. Nowadays a museum is located in the Menkemaborg. The permanent exhibition gives you a good idea of the life of the Groningen squires in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. After your walk, you can continue to enjoy the peace and conviviality at Lentemaheerd: named the Best VeKaBo accommodation in the Netherlands in 2015.
