Description
This route takes you on a long and beautiful bike ride through the Utrecht peat area and through the Vecht region. A route that is full of wonderful panoramic views, quiet nature and historic towns.Fortified city
Weesp
You will also be amazed in the Vecht region: you will see old windmills, monumental farms and mansions here. One village is more beautiful than the other. Cycling along the water, you can enjoy the natural beauty and silence for miles. There is a lot of cultural history to admire in the old fortified town of Weesp.
The Gein
Along the course of the river Gein you cycle into a landscape of green meadows with grazing cows, dikes lined with pollard willows and elongated plots with old farms. You pass the Oostzijds Molen, dating from 1874, one of Mondrian's beloved paintings. In Abcoude you can see, among other things, the Wilhelmina Bridge over the Gein, a quail (pedestrian bridge) from 1908. In the outlying area you follow the meandering course from De Winkel to the Botshol nature reserve.
