Doorn is an excellent base for exploring the Kromme Rijn region. This expansive lowland is nestled between the Utrecht Hill Ridge, the Lower Rhine, and the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. In the past, the region consisted mainly of swamp forest. Reclamation via ditches and canals created the landscape of "slags" (small, narrow, and narrow) that gives this area its unique character. The residential towers here initially served as defense, but later as status symbols. Over the centuries, a number of country houses have been added. You'll pass through the old center of Wijk bij Duurstede, and near Cothen, you can catch a glimpse of Rhijnestein Castle. On the horizon, you can already see the church tower of the next picturesque village: Werkhoven. Here you can see the Rhine and Weert, a corn mill dating from 1882. The route ends at Bloem Doorn.
