Explore the beautiful surroundings of the Wieden

From the new holiday resort Bodelaeke you can explore the beautiful surroundings of the Wieden. This route takes you through part of the Giethoornse Dorpsgracht and through Wanneperveen.

Pearl of Overijssel
Giethoorn is without a doubt the cultural-historical pearl on your route. This picturesque village is known as Venice of the North thanks to its many bridges and waterways. The oldest building in Giethoorn is the Reformed Church, built in 1645. There is a bell tower next to the church. At the Molengat you pass the Giethoorn Noord, a tjasker from 1970. Cycling through the hamlet of Het Klooster you have beautiful views of the rugged swamp landscape behind.

The Blesse
The route also takes you a bit into Friesland. You pass through the village of De Blesse. Here you will see De Mars, a flour mill from 1834.

Up the Woldberg
Time enough? And fancy a little challenge? Then put your bike aside and walk up the Woldberg, a 26 meter high moraine just outside Steenwijk. Some of the paths you walk on are paved with the rubble left over from the bombing of Rotterdam during World War II. At the top you can climb a free observation tower. From here you have a beautiful view of the fortified town of Steenwijk. In clear weather you can even see Heerenveen and Giethoorn.
