Description
This route takes you through part of the Giethoornse Dorpsgracht and through Wanneperveen.
Venice of the North
From the footpath along the Dorpsgracht you will experience the beauty that gave Giethoorn its nickname of Venice of the North. You will see many characteristic monumental farms. It will not take you any effort to walk this part of the route a few times, the view is so beautiful. You will also pass through Wanneperveen, a ribbon village that used to be built on raised bog. At Veneweg 83 you will see the Schultehuis from 1602.
Rough Weeds
The Wieden consists mainly of a few large lakes, such as the Beulakerwijde, Belterwijde and Bovenwijde. It is wonderful to gaze out over the water for a while and let the silence work on you. At the edges of these lakes you see reed fields, swamp forest and flowery meadows. South of Wanneperveen you look out over the marshes of the Kiersche Wijde.
