Cycling route: 524157
Provided by: Groots Genieten
This route takes you from the area of the Frisian Lakes in the direction of the National Park De Alde Feanen. You cycle along the Sneekermeer, but also through cozy small towns and through the vast Frisian peat landscape.
Nice villages
At the beginning of this route you can easily park your car in a parking lot near the Sneekermeer. From here you cycle a bit through the peat landscape to Gauw and further to Akkrum and Nes. Around Akkrum you will find several canals that, according to a folk tale, were dug in 1400 by two giants: Manke Meine and Kromme Knilles. At Akkrum they got into a fight, so they split up and dug two canals.
Mellemolen
On the outskirts of Akkrum you will find De Mellemolen, a spider mill from 1849. This mill was built to drain the Polslootpolder, but in 2004 the mill was moved to the eastern bank of Het Deel. The mill is still used on a voluntary basis. From Akkrum you continue to Grou, Idaerd and Reduzum.
