Hiking on the Sint-Pietersberg plateau

This walk takes you south of Sint-Pietersberg. You walk through the woods and grasslands over D\\\'n Observant and the Plateau of Caestert. A route with a lot of history, nature and beautiful views.

Hoeve Caestert
The route soon takes you a bit into Wallonia. Between the woods you will pass Hoeve Caestert, a farm that was part of the Castle Caestert that burned down in 1972. The farm is built in characteristic Maasland Renaissance style. The keystone above the entrance dates from 1686. In 2013, the farm was also partly destroyed by fire. The Walloon government is currently having the building repaired.

D\\\'n Observant
D\\\'n Observant is a 170 meter high hill. From a distance it looks natural, but it is actually artificial. D\\\'n Observant consists of the cover soil that the ENCI has raised for decades to access the underlying lime. From the top of this special hill you have a magnificent view over Maastricht and Belgium.
