Walking on the Kootwijkerzand

This walk takes you through Kootwijk and the nearby Kootwijkerzand, one of the largest shifting sand areas in Western Europe. As you are used to from the Veluwe, you will also experience here how invigorating a walk in nature is. It is sometimes necessary to bite through the loose sand, but a walk on shifting sand always produces special pictures. Especially with all those whimsical flying pines that grow on the Kootwijkerzand. The route also takes you through the woods and heaths of Boswachterij Kootwijk. It is wonderfully quiet here, so you can clear your head for a while. In Kootwijk you will pass some characteristic farms. On the Brink is the beautiful Dutch Reformed Church, which dates from the early sixteenth century. At Gasterij't Hilletje you can enjoy the tranquility of the Veluwe with a meal and overnight stay. This way you can recover from your active day in nature and gain new energy.
