Cycling along the Amstel

This route takes you along the Amstelkade in Uithoorn and Nes aan de Amstel. You also look out over Polder Rondehoep, a unique quiet area.

Round hoop
From the Waverdijk you have a beautiful view over the polders. On your right is the vast Rondehoep, a quiet area that mainly consists of grassland. This former low peat area was already reclaimed between 1100 and 1300. The centuries-old ditch pattern is still visible in the parcels. At the end of your route, from junction 52 you drive a few more kilometers through the Eerste bedijking der Mijdrechtse Droogmakerij, a polder that was drained after much effort in 1845.

Nes on the Amstel
Nes aan de Amstel originated in the sixteenth century as land outside the dike. On the water of this picturesque village you can see, among other things, the Sint-Urbanuskerk from 1891. On the quay in Uithoorn you can see, among other things, the Thamerkerk from 1834. While cycling you can see two other old fortifications: the Fort at Uithoorn from 1880 and the Fort Waver-Amstel. Both forts are not open to visitors.

After your tour, you can relax at Camping Botsholland. From Camping Botsholland you can take a beautiful bike ride along the Vinkeveense and Loosdrechtse Plassen via route 524106.
