Walking along the IJsselmeer near Wervershoof

This walking route starts at Hotel Café Restaurant de Vooroever in the village of Onderdijk. This village emerged as a small center at the bottom of the dike. Later the village also expanded east of the dike. It originated as a horticultural village with farmers who could only reach their fields in the sailing polder by boat. The farmland has slowly been transformed into a beautiful natural area. The IJsselmeer coast offers you a breathtaking view over the water. On the coast you will also find the Dutch Steam Engine Museum. This museum is located in the former pumping station 'Vier Noorder Koggen', which was built in 1869. You will learn how powerful steam can be by viewing various working steam engines and of course you can also see the old steam pumping station. .
