Description

Parking is easy at the Bomenpark in Heesch.

Cycle through the tree park and then start the route at number 32

There is a catering industry halfway along the route.

It is a varied route with forest heath and meadow landscapes

with typical Brabant long-gable farms, which you pass along the many

neighborhoods.

Immediately after the start you cycle out of the forest to the pointing grounds. These are unique

phenomena. Here you go to low-lying areas at 5 meters NAP. Later

in the woods you will climb again to 33 meters NAP.

In those woods you will also come across the winding path that is loved by local cyclists.

Have fun cycling.

Pointing grounds.

Point is groundwater that seeps up as a result of a fracture in the subsurface.

So it is a special form of seepage.

In the case of point water, the groundwater is stopped on its way to the low areas by a poorly permeable fracture and flows upward at that location. This may coincidentally be at a low location, but in many cases it is precisely the higher places that are wet by the point water. These wet spots are called Wijst grounds. Wijst can be recognized by a rust-red discoloration of the soil and the water in the ditches.

Do you know people named"Van der Wijst\\\" or Verwijst? Then there is a good chance that they are Brabanders. More than half of the people with this surname live within a distance of 15 km from the town. Uden. That's not so surprising. The pointing grounds on which this name is based occur almost exclusively in the east of Brabant.

Peel edge fracture

On the Peelrand Fault, between Roermond and Oss, the Peelhorst and the Central Slenke move an average of 3 mm per year relative to each other. The fault is visible in a few places. Anyone who drives from Nistelrode to Heesch via Donzel can feel the bend in the road surface. Heesch is a few meters lower.

Movement is still taking place along the Peel Edge Fault. This can be seen in some places in the landscape and causes earthquakes with their epicenter above the fault.

Earthquakes.

The last larger earthquakes on this fault were the 1932 earthquake near Uden and the exceptionally strong earthquake near Roermond for the Netherlands on April 13, 1992. This occurred at 3.20 am. The magnitude was 5.8 on the scale of Richter.
