The central theme of this route is water. The tour starts in Westervoort. At the Veerdam, do not take the fastest route to junction 61, but go through the swing gate. You will then arrive at:
- monument of the Liberation Route about the liberation of Arnhem from Westervoort;
- the junction of the Rhine and IJssel (the IJsselkop), seen by many as the most beautiful spot in Westervoort
- the regulations of Room for the River. If you drive under it, you will return to the route to junction 61 on the other side of the Hondsbroeksche Pley.
The ferry Loo - Huissen takes you to the Overbetuwe. Via Angeren you reach the Linge (note: junction 91 is not yet indicated at junction 92 - turn left towards junction 87 and after 200m over the Linge, turn right to 91.
Via Haalderen you arrive at the beautiful Waaldijk:
- on the other side of the busy Waal is the Ooijpolder;
- You will pass the 15th century gate tower of the Poelwijk Estate;
- the Gendtse Polder on your right;
- on the dike in Gendt you will find the Protestant church. A church with only a tower and a choir. The ship was demolished in 1844 after neglect;
- again on the right at Doornenburg follows the Klompenwaard;
- at the end of the Waaldijk you will find Fort Pannerden on your right. Reopened in 2016 after restoration. A visit to the Fort is highly recommended!
Via the Doornenburg - Pannerden ferry you cross the Rhine / the Pannerdensch Canal and pass through Pannerden to the Deukerdijk. The direction to Gemaal Oude Rijn is regularly indicated. Opened in May 2016. You can visit the pumping station's machines, there is a restaurant with terrace, a small art exhibition and a bed & breakfast. Idyllically situated on the edge of water, meadows and the dike.
The Berghoofdseweg crosses the Oude Rijnstrangen area. You can stroll around, take a ferry and the view over the old course of the Rhine is beautiful.
The Leuvensedijk passes a number of winds that were created during dike breaches in the 18th century. The largest is the Jesuit Waai. Natural cows and horses roam the area. In and along the water you will find many birds - including storks, egrets and regularly several spoonbills.
On the way to junction 64 you will see the Betuwe railway coming out of the tunnel, another breezeway and the 15th century Loowaerd castle farm.
The road back to Westervoort passes through the village of Loo and through the Horsterpark with a large petting zoo. You return to the starting point via the Arnhem-Zevenaar fast cycle path.
This route is also suitable for a mobility scooter.
