Cycling along Lauwersmeer National Park

The Lauwersmeer National Park is a lush nature reserve on the border of Groningen and Friesland. If you are a bird lover, you can indulge yourself here. The starting point of this cycle tour is just outside Zoutkamp on the Reitdiep, the canalized lower reaches of the Hunze. From here you cycle into the Lauwersmeer National Park to take a tour around the Lauwersmeer. The landscape in this area consists of extensive grassland, reed fields and deciduous forests around the lake. While cycling you can enjoy a beautiful view of the shallow Lauwersmeer. In early spring, orioles, avocets and spoonbills settle here to spend the summer and in winter you will find thousands of geese here.
