Venlo, Limburg, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 5137830
Provided by: route.nl
The first few kilometres you cycle through two contiguous nature reserves: the Venloerheide and the Groote Heide, which served as a German airfield (Fliegerhorst Venlo) during the Second World War. Then you cross the border and cycle through the German hamlet of Louisenburg. Here you see a lock remnant of the Grand Canal du Nord on the right of the road: the never-completed canal project with which the French wanted to connect the cities of Antwerp, Venlo and Neuss in the early 1800s. You cycle through the forests to the Krickenbecker Seen, four lakes that were created by peat extraction. Here you can also see Krieckenbeck Castle. You pass through the villages of Leuth and Bracht, in between you cycle through the beautiful Nettedal. Via the vast Brachterwald you cycle back to the Netherlands. The route ends with a pleasant terrace at Green Barn.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
