Schagen, North Holland, The Netherlands

Your route starts at Paviljoen8/Holiday Park De Nollen. The area around Wieringen is perfect for a beautiful bike ride. You'll experience a surprisingly beautiful contrast between low-lying polders and rolling countryside. The former island of Wieringen was formed by two moraines that reach their highest points near Westerland and Stroe. Wieringen was connected to North Holland in 1924 through dike construction and land reclamation. A few boulders still remain on the former island, and here and there you'll see a few authentic garden walls, approximately one meter high, that served as property boundaries. Den Oever is where the Afsluitdijk (Enclosure Dike) comes ashore in North Holland. At this point and a little further along the dike, you'll find several old locks and casemates. The former lighthouse from 1884 also stands here.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
