Your route starts at Hotel't Zwaantje. Groote Keeten was built on the remains of the flooded island't Oghe. It was dyked around 1600, up to Huisduinen. These polders were an important basis for later land reclamations, such as the Anna Paulownapolder and Wieringerwaard. In 1610 the village became so large that a'begeschikte keet\\\' was built, a kind of town hall. Hence the name Groote Keeten. You also cycle past Fort Kijkduin near the village of Huisduinen. Lighthouse De Lange Jaap was the highest lighthouse in Europe when it was built in 1877. As far as cast iron towers are concerned, it is still the highest in Europe! Then you meander inland over the dikes. Here you have a beautiful view of mills and villages. You cycle back through Anna Paulowna.
