Krimpenerwaard, South Holland, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 5093385
Provided by: route.nl
Your route starts at Cafetaria and Brasserie De Veerpoort. Here you have a beautiful view of the water of the Lek. Around the year 1000, the Lek was the most important river for draining the Rhine water. Until the eleventh century there were no dikes and the river regularly overflowed. From the dike you have a wide view of the floodplains and the river. Silversmiths have been active in Schoonhoven since the Middle Ages. In the current streetscape you can still see old monumental silver workshops and silversmith houses. The old fortifications are easy to recognize. In the town you will also find the Dutch Silver Museum, the Schoonhovens Edelambachtshuys and Museum Kan/Schellink - all nice places to interrupt your route and learn more about the city!
Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
