Krimpenerwaard, South Holland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 5093348
Provided by: route.nl
Your route starts at Cafetaria and Brasserie De Veerpoort. The Krimpenerwaard is a centuries-old peat meadow area that is partly below NAP, an open meadow landscape with many monumental centuries-old farms. From the polder you can see the monumental Kempen church tower of Stolwijk. In 1946, the leaning tower was straightened a little: from about 1.35 meters to 'only' 85 centimeters out of plumb. After a visit to Gouda you will discover Haastrecht, on the Hollandse IJssel. In addition to the many old monuments, you will see Poldermuseum Gemaal De Hooge Boezem here. This pumping station dates from the nineteenth century and contributes to keeping the polder habitable. In the museum you will learn everything about the ingenious water management in this area where most houses are lower than the rivers.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
