Description

Your route starts at Cafetaria and Brasserie De Veerpoort. In the middle of the National Landscape Het Groene Hart lie the Krimpener- and Lopikerwaard. Here you will find a beautiful mix of nature, rivers and historical towns. Moreover, it is wonderfully quiet in this vast polder landscape. Near the Lek you have beautiful views over the flowery floodplains and the babbling river. In Lopik you can admire the beautiful fifteenth-century village church. Lexmond originated at the place where the peat stream Laak originated from the Lek. At the beginning of the thirteenth century the Lek changed its course and washed away Lexmond, whereupon it was rebuilt a little further south. In the old town of Vianen you drive past the Hofpoort, a remnant of the former Batestein castle that burned down in 1696.
