Description

Your route starts at Recreation Centre Adelhof. Imagine yourself far from civilization between the rolling heathlands, more than sixty ponds and fens, drifting sands and forests in the largest wet heathland in Western Europe. National Park Dwingelderveld is unique in size and special in terms of flora and fauna. In addition to typical heathland plants; shrub, bell and crow heather and sundew, you will encounter the rare bog asphodel and marsh gentian. They are surrounded by almost three hundred different bird species, many of which also breed in the area. There are also herds of heath sheep walking around. This cycle route also takes you through the pleasant villages of Ansen and Uffelte. In Wapserveen there is a bell tower from the sixteenth century. This bell tower, traditionally a cheap alternative to the expensive church tower, is the last original example in Drenthe.
