Photo walking route Wijchen South and Wijchen Lake

Wijchen Zuid is a somewhat unknown area of Wijchen for many, unless you live there... But we are going to walk there with our photo walking club!

We start at Camping Het Scharrelnest on Oosterweg 263 in Wijchen, because that is also where we want to end with a delicious lunch. More information about that later. From the starting point we set off around 9:30 am along the Oosterweg in the direction of Wijchen.

A little further on it turns into the Zuiderdreef . We follow the road with a gentle bend to the left.

On the right we cross the Oosterweg and walk along the south side of the Oosterpark .

We continue to the next roundabout and turn left there (cross). There we take the path that runs parallel to the Zuiderdreef for a while and follow that path.

There are a few twists and turns at the end of that path, but the idea is to go further to the left, into De Meren . We follow the road to the pond further on, which we then walk around. The next part is parallel to the Diemewei .

Past the Trinoom we turn left into De Lingert . A little further on, past the skate park, we turn left onto the path. It winds around a bulge of the Wijchens Meer.

The Wijchens Meer is actually an old river arm of the Maas, which was cut off from the main arm about 3000 years ago. The area around the Wijchens Meer is rich in archaeological remains, including finds from Roman times. WikiPedia provides more specific information about this.

We cross the Wijchens Meer via the pedestrian/bicycle bridge. On the other side in front of Wijkcentrum de Brink we turn right and continue via the footpath parallel to the Marskramer . We follow that path for a long way... A little further on the path makes a gentle bend to the left.

If you look to the right before the buildings, you will see the Balgoyse Wetering , which flows into the Wijchens Meer. It is a watercourse that comes from Balgoy and eventually drains the water to the Wijchens Meer.

We continue along the path along the Marskramer , until we reach the Huurlingsedam . There we turn left and almost immediately right again: into the Wagenmaker . We walk quite a bit further; on the right-hand side there is construction going on. On the right-hand side (hopefully) the Koperslager is indicated, there we turn left onto the path again towards Huurlingsedam . Crossing diagonally, a path runs between the houses to the Mandenmaker , there we turn right. We then end up at the Brink ( exactly, if you look to the left you can see the Wijkcentrum a bit further on ).

Even to the right and immediately left over the Brink and then right into the Huurlingsedam . We continue to follow the Huurlingsdam , also with that bend to the right. We have to cross the Veldwachter and stay on the Huurlingsedam , which ( after crossing the Houtzager ) continues to the Oosterweg . Immediately right there, but if all goes well we can already smell the coffee...

We end, as already mentioned, at Camping Het Scharrelnest , where we can enjoy a delicious extensive lunch for EUR 10, - pp. Hopefully just as cozy and tasty as last time, but that will be fine!
