Your route starts on the outskirts of Schagen. The Willibrordus Church, with its truncated tower, still forms the heart of the small village of Haringhuizen in the northern part of North Holland. The church at Dorpsstraat 9 stands on a mound and dates back to the 15th century. The atmospheric interior features a pulpit and baptismal font dating from 1654. The Slootgaardpolder windmill, built in 1590, drained the small De Slootgaard lake. By Broersen is a great place to take a break! The Regional Museum 1940-1945 is housed in one of the castle towers of Schagen Castle. The towers date back to the Middle Ages! The Battle of the Somme 1914-1918 Museum is located in the other castle tower: the only museum in the Netherlands dedicated to the First World War.
