Your route starts at Boerderij Buitengewoon. Today you will discover the stream system of Tongeren. The peat in this region was created by seepage water from the Veluwe moraine. The Tongerense Veen next to the hamlet of Tongeren was drained by the construction of numerous streams, such as the Paalbeek, Vlasbeek and the Dorpse Beek. This way the water could be used to irrigate meadows and drive mills. In the meantime, the peat area was immediately reclaimed and made suitable as farmland. There is a lot of special nature to discover here, thanks to the clean water. Fish species such as the brook lamprey live in the streams and ditches. You will also find many wild flowers. You walk back over the Tongeren Estate. The old, small-scale cultural landscape here has been beautifully preserved.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
