Tour of Elspeet and Cannenburgh Castle

Your route starts at Boerderij Buitengewoon. Near Vaassen you will pass historical places. The sixteenth-century Kasteel de Cannenburgh was built on the remains of an earlier, probably fourteenth-century castle. Nearby is the wonderfully authentic hamlet of Niersen, a typical Veluwe es- or enkneder settlement. Niersen is very old, it was first mentioned around 1335 as the'marka Niirsen\\\'. After Elspeet you cycle past Gortel, a beautiful hamlet with many well-preserved old farms. Welna is a family estate of almost 600 hectares of forest, heath, hills and some grasslands with a number of houses and outbuildings scattered around. The vast forests, silence and tranquility make it a unique place in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1848 from the pioneering spirit of Buys Ballot.
