Cycling route Rural Overijssel 55 km

During this cycle route you will experience the countryside of Overijssel. In the past, people earned their living here with various crafts such as weaving, forging and shoemaking. On the characteristic farms, people combined farm life with the necessary additional income. You will pass through Den Ham with the Brink and the Gothic church tower dating from the 14th century.

Vroomshoop was founded as a place when the landscape was peat-cut. After that, the peat lands were used as agricultural land. Especially Groningen farmers contributed to this. On the Tonnendijk you can still see a number of characteristic Groningen farms. The place Vroomshoop probably owes its name to the monks who used to pass by here. At this place there was a hill that served as a landmark for monks who traveled through the country. The nickname for this hill became'de vrome hoop\\\' and the name Vroomhoop was corrupted from that.
