The southwest of Friesland is different from what you are used to from this province. No green flat meadows, but a hilly and wooded landscape that originated in the Ice Age. This makes it a beautiful area to discover by bike.
The rolling landscape is interspersed with historic towns and villages where you can discover more about the history of Gaasterland. Gaasterland wants to give you a glimpse of the beautiful nature, as well as something about the culture of the region. The sculpture route'Famkes van Kolderwolde\\\' shows you a piece of that culture. Various inhabitants and customs of the village are shown by means of eleven sculptures. You will encounter a number of these works of art along the public road in Kolderwolde.
Swap the towns for ancient forests and the special cliffs where you can enjoy a phenomenal view. You almost forget that you are cycling in the Netherlands.
