Cycle route from Groningen to the countryside 60 km

Groningen, Haren, Leek

This cycle route starts in the lively Groningen and takes you on a surprising route through the city and nature. From the city centre you cycle towards Haren, where you soon reach the Hortus Botanicus. A nice place to get off and look around: here you will find special plants, ponds and quiet paths. A nice moment to leave the hustle and bustle behind you and focus on nature.

The route continues towards Drenthe, where you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape at the lookout point"De Preekstoel\\\". Here you have a great panorama over fields and forests, which change every season and show new colours.

Along the way you will also pass a piece of ancient history: dolmen D1. This is the most northern dolmen of Drenthe and has therefore been given the code D1. This prehistoric structure is one of the reasons that Drenthe is also called the OER province.

On the way back to Groningen you will pass Landgoed Nienoord and cycle back into the city via the Stadspark. The park forms a quiet end to your route, with beautiful paths and greenery to slowly re-enter the city.
