Southbroek (Siddeburen)
Zuidbroek could be called the cradle of transport. In the Middle Ages it was already an important place on the trade route to Germany, in the 17th century the first canal boat in the Netherlands sailed here between Groningen and Winschoten, in 1868 a train station was built and in 1881 Zuidbroek became the starting point of the horse-drawn tram line to Ter Apel. A piece of that history can be found in the old station building. At Siddeburen you can see that part of the Reformed church consists of grey tuff stones. This is the oldest part of the church that dates back to the 13th century.
