Above Amsterdam lies a beautiful water-rich area. The lakes, ditches, meadows and picturesque towns alternate here and that makes for beautiful pictures.
In 1340, Purmerend was still a small hamlet, but it flourished as a trading company for fishing and shipping. The city once had a castle, Purmersteijn Castle, built at the beginning of the 15th century. After it fell into disrepair, it was demolished in 1741.
On the way you will pass Broek in Waterland, also abbreviated to Broek by the inhabitants. The village is beautiful and attracts a lot of attention because of the brightly colored wooden houses. Between the water you will find the village of Landsmeer that often lost the battle against the water. Now you can safely get off here, for example to visit the nature reserve Het Twiske!
