Cycling route Amerongen and Veenendaal

This route takes you through the area around Amerongen, Leersum and Veenendaal. First you cycle to Leersum, after which you enter the forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug via a climb. A little later you descend to the Gelderse Vallei. At junction 99 you can get off for a moment to take a look at the Linie van de Juffrouwwijk. This earthen fortification is part of the Grebbelinie. On the edge of Veenendaal you cycle over the Slaperdijk that was constructed in 1653. Between junctions 25 and 26 you cycle along the Valleikanaal. On the left you look out over the Bennekomse Meent and Binnenveldse Hooilanden: nature reserves that consist of rare blue grasslands. Finally you come through the picturesque Amerongen. The route ends with a bite to eat at Lorijn eten & drinken - Zuylestein.
