Cycling route Wijk bij Duurstede, Cothen and Werkhoven

At the foot of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, it is beautiful to cycle through the vast landscape of the Kromme Rijnstreek. Here you will find a mix of orchards, flowery floodplains, grasslands and villages with a rich cultural history. Over the Lekdijk you cycle to Wijk bij Duurstede, stop at the Markt to enjoy the historical atmosphere. On the edge of Cothen you can take a look at Kasteel Rhijnestein. Robber knight Jan van Rhijnestein once held several goldsmiths from Paris hostage here. Werkhoven enjoys a protected village view, you pass the Sint-Stevenskern and Rijn & Weert, a corn mill from 1882. The last part of the route you make a climb to Leersum, after which you can regain your strength with a tasty snack at Lorijn eten & drinken - Zuylestein.
