Walk on the Zuylestein Estate

In the countryside of Amerongen and Leersum you can take a lovely walk on the Zuylestein Estate. The history of this knightly manor goes back to the end of the fourteenth century. Nothing remains of the old castle: it was bombed by the English at the end of the Second World War. The old seventeenth-century walls and fences are still standing. What has also remained: the beautiful straight lanes. It is wonderfully quiet walking here, ideal for enjoying the natural beauty. Just past junction 79 you come along Wayestein. There used to be a castle here, now an eighteenth-century farm. From the Lekdijk you have a beautiful view over the floodplains and you see a beautiful monumental building. Through a mix of forest and grasslands you walk back to Lorijn food & drinks - Zuylestein.
