Description

In the outskirts of Alkmaar there are beautiful polder mills. The Robonsbosmolen is a beautiful thatched example from 1781. Take a break a little further on at Camping Alkmaar! Nearby you will discover the Cornelis Jetsespad, constructed in 2010. It is named after Cornelis Jetses, illustrator of children's books and school posters. He is best known for Ot and Sien. The path offers a beautiful view of the vast Bergermeerpolder. You walk back along the banks of the Hoevervaart, which is very old. Together with the Steesloot, the Hoevervaart formed the connection between the Oudegracht and Egmond. When the rampart was constructed in 1573, an opening had to be made with a vaulted bridge, so as not to obstruct the passage. Within the city limits of Alkmaar is the ground sailor the Geestmolen, which was built in 1556.
