Vijfheerenlanden, Utrecht, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 5023416
Provided by: route.nl
Your route starts at Huis Het Bosch. The first beginnings of the Lek were created around 200 BC, but the stream only really became active around the year zero, when it started to drain Rhine water. When the original Rhine course was dammed in 1122, the Lek began to resemble the undulating main stream that it is today. The water is important for the polder landscape and has a considerable influence on the construction of the many polders that have been created. In the larger basins you will often find jetties: a lot of sailing is done here! You cycle through the wide polders to the picturesque heart of Leerdam. Here you can enjoy cycling along the Linge. From the dike you look out over the flowery grasslands and orchards along the river.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
