Your route starts at Huis Het Bosch. The first influx of the Lek River dates back to around 200 BC, but the stream only truly became active around the year zero, when it began carrying Rhine water. When the original course of the Rhine was dammed in 1122, the Lek River began to resemble the undulating main stream it is today. Water is crucial to the polder landscape and significantly influences the construction of the many polders that have formed. In the larger basins, you'll often find jetties: this is a popular spot for boating! You'll cycle through the expansive polders to the picturesque heart of Leerdam. Here, you can enjoy a wonderful bike ride along the Linge River. From the dike, you can look out over the flower-filled meadows and orchards along the river.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
