Your route starts at Hotel Mennorode in Elspeet. You will wake up here in the middle of the forest! The hotel also welcomes guests who just want to eat or drink something. It is worth combining your visit with a short walk. The hotel is located on the Crown Estate Het Loo and has no less than 10 hectares of private land. During the reign of Queen Wilhelmina, the original estate around Paleis Het Loo was expanded with substantial purchases, which are now collectively called Het Kroondomein. The Elspeterbos is a very old beech forest. As early as 1100, it was used as a community forest by the residents of Elspeet. It is part of the largest contiguous old forest core in the Netherlands. The trees are direct descendants of the primeval forest that once lay here!
