Walking stage 01: Woensdrecht - Bergen op Zoom | Walking route Canadian Liberators

This 25.5 km stage takes you over the first part of the route that the Canadian liberators took on Dutch territory. You walk from Woensdrecht to Bergen op Zoom along 5 important locations. For example, you will pass a listening column that tells you the story of Black Friday and Plein 13, a former Canadian cemetery. You will also pass the Lincoln Bridge, a former emergency bridge for the 8th Field Squadron.

The Canadian liberation route runs in Brabant from Woensdrecht to Oss and is a total of 271 kilometers divided over 11 stages. Canadian soldiers played an important role in the liberation of the Netherlands in 1944-45. With this walking route you follow in their footsteps. From Zeeland, right through the Netherlands to Groningen. With well-known and unknown stories along the way.
