Tour of Plantage Center near Wouw

Your route starts at Camping Getaway. The Wouwse Plantage estate was founded in 1504. For centuries, the marquises of Bergen op Zoom ruled here. They had the marshes drained and the peat cut. Then they afforested the heathland and drifting sand. Around 1800, the estate was expropriated by the state, in 1839 it was sold to a wealthy private individual. The estate has only been open to the public since 1987! You walk along avenues and winding paths past beech trees, oaks and Scots pines. Hidden in the middle of the forest lies the Plantage Centrum. Here you will find a unique collection of national monuments, such as the hunting lodge, the sawmill, the keyhole house, the bakehouse and the Bandweermuseum. This area can only be visited with a guide, but you will have a beautiful view of it with this walk.
