Twisteden and Walbeck Tour

Your route starts at the Arcense Herberg. Nearby you will immediately cycle past Kasteeltuinen Arcen, with more than 15 unique gardens around a historic country estate with a 17th century castle. Then you will take a beautiful tour through the Maasduinen, a national park. From a distance you can already see the tower of the Sint-Quirinuskerk in Twisteden looming. The German area around Kevelaer and Twisteden belonged to the Southern Netherlands until 1701. During the Spanish War of Succession, the Prussians took this area permanently. Be sure to stop at Walbeck Castle, from the fourteenth century. The castle was in the hands of vassals of the counts and dukes of Gelre for a long time. It survived the Second World War fairly well. There is currently a hotel in the castle.
