Twickel: Umfassungsweg

For those who want to enjoy everything that makes Twente so beautiful - the nature, the peace, the diverse landscape, the history and the neighbourliness - the Umfassungsweg of Twickel is a perfect walking path. On the estate of the same name you can walk various routes, but this path'umfasst\\\' (encompasses) the heart of the estate and shows in approximately 11 kilometers how versatile this part of Twente is. This path was devised by landscape architect Eduard Petzold, who worked on the estate around 1890. Twickel is mainly known as an estate with a beautiful castle from the sixteenth century, and you can take full advantage of that castle. The Umfassungsweg runs right past it, but the estate's wonderful Victorian house park is certainly worth a few extra kilometers in your legs, complete with its own orangery and gazebo. Further along the route: picturesque leasehold farms, with black and white shutters (the house style of Twickel), a gorgeous watermill, and a stretch of boardwalk between the conifers and heathland.

Start and end point: Country estate shop, Twickelerlaan 7, Ambt Delden

Marking: Posts with UW on them, the shape of the posts is inspired by the hunting posts of the estate.

Dog with you? On parts of the route there is an alternative route for dogs.

Walking for Goodies:

*The Mollink resident's farm cart (along the route) with regional products.

*Every first Saturday of the month in the courtyard of the Deldense Oude Blasiuskerk regional market with the tastiest Twente artisanal products.

*For a higher price level: restaurant Carelshaven in Delden itself (14 out of 20 points at Gault & Millau).
