Description

GR 57 is one of the most popular and most walked long-distance trails in the Ardennes. This route runs for a large part through one of the most beautiful river valleys of the Ardennes and is very varied. Most stages can be reached by train or bus and there are many sleeping options along the way. There is a lot of climbing and descending involved and the paths are sometimes quite adventurous for those who take the flat Flanders as the norm.

The route starts at the station of Liège Guillemins, a big contrast when you walk into the Ardennes. The Ourthe is your guide, from the mouth to the vicinity of the eastern or western sources. Along the way you walk past historic towns, villages and curiosities. At the Luxembourg border you climb out of the Ourthe valley, over the watershed between the Meuse and Rhine basins. In the Grand Duchy you descend to Troisvierges, where the Path of the North takes over. Along the river valleys of Woltz, Clerf and Sauer you walk to Diekirch.

Or you can opt for the 70 km long branch from the Nisramont dam that explores the Western Ourthe to its source in Ourt, ending at the Libramont train station.
