Description
Gerard Reve, one of the Big Three 20th century Dutch writers, experienced 'the happiest time of his life' in Friesland from 1964 to 1971.
He lived in Greonterp, often visited cafe De Freonskip in Blauwhuis and also visited HCR De Watersport in Heeg, as mentioned in the poem Herkenning, which was given a place on the mantelpiece there in 2023 in Reves 100th birthday year.
The Revefietstocht is 25km and goes from HCR De Watersport in Heeg via Gaastmeer and Oudega along the Oudegaaster Brekken to Greonterp (90 inhabitants), where in the bell tower next to Reve's old house, work by and information about the writer can be experienced. Then the bike takes you further along Blauwhuis and Westhem back to Heeg. The tour follows the cycle junctions.
