Description
From Enschede you can cycle across the German border in the direction of Bad Bentheim in no time. Enjoy the bocage landscape of Twente, the cross-border nature reserves near the German border and the pleasant towns in this area.
Cycling from Twente to Germany
The starting point of this route is on the outskirts of Enschede in Usselo. From here you cycle through the center of the city to Losser. The town of Losser is known for the old cultural buildings that you will find there, such as the old brick factory, the clog museum and the smuggling museum. Then it's time to cross the border to the town of Gildehaus. This town is just across the border and it is therefore not surprising that you will meet many Dutch people here. In the vicinity of Gildehaus you will find beautiful green nature reserves where you can cycle through in peace. You then cycle back to Enschede via Losser.
Restaurant Hanninkshof
At the end of the route you will end up in the village of Usselo. Here you can settle down at Restaurant Hanninkshof for a cup of coffee, lunch or dinner. You are probably ready for that after a long bike ride. Stretch your legs and take a rest.
The Lonneker Mill
A little outside the town of Lonneker you cycle past the Lonneker Molen. This mill was built in 1851 as a replacement for an old mill that burned down in 1847. In 1916 the mill was stopped because little grain was ground during the First World War. Later the dilapidated mill was refurbished and then the mill was used again. In 2016 a fire raged in the mill, but most of the mill has not suffered.
