In the east of Twente you can enjoy beautiful nature reserves close to the German border. This route takes you through the most beautiful parts of this area, in the Netherlands and a bit across the border in Germany.
From the Lutterzand to the Gildehauser Venn
The first part of this route takes you through the Lutterzand. This nature reserve consists of a rolling landscape with forests, sand drifts and heathlands on the banks of the Dinkel river. From here you cross the German border in the direction of the town of Gildehaus. The location of this village on the border with Overijssel has ensured that many Dutch people have settled here. So it could be that you hear people speaking Dutch to each other here. Then you head towards the Gildehauser Venn nature reserve, where you can enjoy swampy forest areas. Then you cycle back into the Netherlands to cycle back via Losser to the starting point of the route.
Restaurant & Country Estate Florilympha
At the end of the route you can settle down at Restaurant & Buitenplaats Florilympha. Here you can replenish your energy supply in the middle of the woods with a cup of coffee and cake, lunch or dinner. From here you can also follow route 489245.
Old traditions in Losser
Losser is one of the towns you cycle through during this cycle tour. Here you will find an old brick factory and a clog museum. This way you can get acquainted with old traditions from times long past. You will also find beautiful historic buildings such as the St. Martinus Tower and an open-air theater. Every last Saturday of the month a nice Boerenstreek market is held that is worth a visit.
