Montepulciano, Tuscany, Italy
Cycling route: 4888562

The route first passes Montichiello, one of the many very interesting villages in this area. Then the route descends to the Orcia valley, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. We will first visit Bagno Vignoni, another small very interesting village (or hamlet), known for its hot springs: the central square of the hamlet is a hot water bath fed by a volcanic layer deep underground! Then the route heads towards the mountain massif of Monte Amiata and the roads become quiet. You do not climb to Monte Amiata itself, but to a hill at an altitude of 1100 metres, with many views on the way there. Then it is a long descent. On the way back you cycle between Le Conie and Contignano on a road with many beautiful views. The last part of the route you cycle 3 km uphill via a strade bianche road.
