In the Peel region you can see the result of centuries of hard work. The raised bog area of 30,000 hectares has been transformed into arable and grasslands, but you will also find many quiet nature reserves. From your starting point you cycle along the Mariapeel (right, located in Limburg) and the Deurnsche Peel (left, in Brabant). In Griendtsveen, a peat colony in Brabant, you can feel the history of exploitation. Then you cycle into Limburg. You will pass various small nature reserves, such as the forests of the Steegberg. Just above Maasbree you cycle through a well-preserved ash landscape with old fields and many hedges, wooded banks and woods. In Maasbree, stop off at Cafe de Pool! You cycle back via Helenaveen. The authentic village is one of the two peat colonies in the south of the Netherlands and enjoys a protected village view.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
