From Hindeloopen to Sneek

This cycling tour takes you along waterways and through some historic Frisian villages and towns. From Hindeloopen you drive to Sneek via Workum, Oudega and IJlst.

Hindeloopen is one of the Frisian Eleven Cities, it received city rights as early as 1225. It will take some effort to cycle away from here, there are many sights to be found. In Workum you drive through the center that enjoys a protected village view. Feel free to step off to experience the special atmosphere. You will see beautiful buildings such as the former town hall, the weighing house and the St. Gertrude Church. A visit to the Jopie Huisman Museum is very worthwhile.

Old sawmill
You continue through the polder to Oudega, a village on the Oudergaasterbrokken lake. Here you will see, among other things, the Ankertsjerke from 1755. You will also be amazed by the old IJlst. In this pleasant town you will pass De Rat sawmill, which was built in 1828. A little later you drive into Sneek, the historic city where you can spend a few hours. The route ends at Sneek Station.

It is not without reason that the picturesque Sneek enjoys a protected cityscape. Take your time to visit the historic and cozy city center: from the saddle or on foot with your bicycle in hand. One of the oldest sights is the Martini Church, which was built in the eleventh century with tuff stone on a mound. The current building dates from 1498. In the bell house next to the church there are still two centuries-old bells from 1466 and 1543.

There are many old mansions and shophouses on the Kleinzand, some of which were built around 1790 in the Louis XVI style.
