Tour of Waarde-Kapelle-Value

We start this route in Value. We parked our car on the dike at the café"The stuff\\\" in Waarde. You can then immediately drink a cup of coffee. We go straight along the dike here. You can cycle on both sides, depending on the wind. The most beautiful side is of course along the water. Here you have the most beautiful salt marshes and you should certainly not forget to eat your sandwich somewhere on a bench on the dike. Beautiful seascape with boats!

Continue to Kruiningen. Originated in the Middle Ages on a creek ridge. Kruiningen means"higher place\\\". It has a 14th to 16th century church and the old character has been preserved here. There is a memorial statue of the flood disaster of 1953 by the artist Jan Wolkers. The'\\\'Oude Molen'\\' along the route has blown over once and is therefore not really old.

The Canal through South Beveland was opened in 1866. This is a waterway connection between Antwerp and the Rhine. It is still important as a connection between Ghent and Terneuzen and the Rhine. You cycle over two movable locks. When a ship is sailing, they can of course not be used for a while.

If you cycle a little further towards junction 70 at the viaduct over the A58, you can go and see the picturesque little village of Eversdijk. It has a cemetery under the beautiful beech trees and a village pond (vaete). This was intended as a drinking place for cattle and also as fire extinguishing water. You see fruit everywhere here, the clay soil of Zuid-Beveland is extremely suitable for it. Apples, pears and cherries are grown and often protected from the wind by trees. We go back to the viaduct.

Just past the roundabout you can take a break near the petrol station. We go via Biezelinge to Kapelle where there is plenty of party today. Due to the crowds, the signs are difficult to find. When we have arrived at junction 54 at Kapelle, we have to keep a close eye on the street names to get back to the bridge over Het Kanaal. Through a flat polder landscape we arrive in Oostdijk and finally arrive in Waarde again.
