Discover the world of the armed forces (between nodes 53 and 55)

The NMM, located on the former Soesterberg airbase, shows the military history of the Netherlands. The collection includes the largest collection of tanks, aircraft, armored vehicles and helicopters in the Netherlands, each with a special story. The deployment of the armed forces during domestic and foreign conflicts, the two world wars, but also the peacekeeping missions, is discussed through penetrating personal stories of those who have made our peace and security their profession. The silent garden is a place of remembrance and commemoration with the Air Force Monument, Memorial Airmen and the Monument of the Fallen May Days 1940. The Air Force Monument was erected in 1923 on the 10th anniversary of the Aviation Department, the predecessor of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. In the silence garden there is also a wall with the names of all soldiers who died in an aircraft. The names of the fallen are still written in the wall.
