Discover the world of the armed forces (between junctions 53 and 55)

The NMM, located on the former Soesterberg air base, shows the military history of the Netherlands. The collection includes the largest collection of tanks, aircraft, armoured vehicles and helicopters in the Netherlands, each with a special story. The deployment of the armed forces during domestic and foreign conflicts, the two world wars but also the peace missions, are discussed through compelling personal stories of those who have made our peace and security their profession. The silent garden is a place of remembrance and commemoration with the Air Force Monument, the Airmen's Memorial and the Monument of the Fallen in May 1940. The Air Force Monument was erected in 1923 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Aviation Department, the predecessor of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The silent garden also features a wall with the names of all military personnel who died in an aircraft. The names of the fallen are still being added to the wall.
