Your route starts at Camping De Blekhort. From here you cycle through beautiful nature and many nice villages. From junction 88 you drive into theearer Achterbroek, an ancient landscape of meadows, hedgerows and bushes. In the spring you can see wildflowers here. How different is the vast landscape around Vroomshoop and Geerdijk. The raised peat was mined here from the mid-nineteenth century, because the Twente textile industry needed peat as a cheap fuel. This way you drive to the Engbertsdijksvenen, a vast peat area with heathlands and fens. All raised bogs in the Netherlands have now virtually disappeared and only a few remnants remain. In the middle of the Engbertsdijksvenen there is still a piece of raised peat about five meters thick, completely in its original state.
